Istituto Idrografico

The Istituto Idrografico della Marina (IIM, the Italian Navy Hydrographic Institute) is the state cartographic body responsible for producing Italy's official nautical documentation. Established in 1872 and based in Genoa, in the historic Forte San Giorgio, it is part of the Ministry of Defence and works to ensure safe navigation and the safeguarding of human life at sea. Its publications include nautical charts, pilot books, the List of Lights and Fog Signals and other publications for mariners.
