The Seaflo 8-litre Expansion Tank is the diaphragm accumulator for pressurised water systems with large capacity, designed for boats, yachts and vessels with more complex water installations. Thanks to its generous volume, it ensures stable, continuous water pressure across multiple simultaneous outlets, eliminating the pressure fluctuations typical of systems relying solely on a pressure pump.
Why an 8-litre tank on board
Compared to compact models, the 8-litre tank stands out for its ability to supply multiple outlets simultaneously — shower, washbasin, galley sink — maintaining constant pressure without the pump having to restart every time a tap is opened. The result is smooth flow comparable to a domestic water supply, even on cruising yachts or larger vessels.
Internal diaphragm and water hammer absorption
The internal rubber diaphragm separates the air chamber from the water chamber, absorbing pressure fluctuations and water hammer caused by the rapid opening and closing of valves and taps. This results in a quieter, less wear-prone system with a significantly extended pump service life. The diaphragm requires no routine maintenance and allows universal mounting in any orientation.
Installation and pre-charge adjustment
The tank features a Schrader valve — the same type found on bicycle and car tyres — allowing the pre-charge pressure to be adjusted with any compressor or hand pump. The practical rule is to set the pre-charge to 5 PSI below the pump’s cut-in pressure, to maximise the volume of water delivered before the pump reactivates. The ¾″ MNPT fitting ensures compatibility with the main marine fittings and pipework.
Reduced consumption and system protection
Every pump restart causes an electrical current spike. By drastically reducing the frequency of start-stop cycles, the 8 Lt expansion tank lowers onboard power consumption, helps protect the battery and ensures more efficient management of energy resources — particularly important on passages or when at anchor without shore power.
